Free Speech Ireland are holding a demonstration against the Hate Crime Bill this Saturday in Galway:
Galway Free Speech Protest
Hildegarde Naughton (Fine Gael) has been a strong proponent of the Hate Speech Bill and has lobbied for social media companies like Facebook to collect government-issued identification including PPS numbers. Join Free Speech Ireland this Saturday at 1pm in Eyre Square to send a clear message: Bin the Bill!
After watching that excellent interview from the New Culture Forum, I’m feeling even more apprehensive. We’re surrounded by shark infested waters in Scotland, Ireland and Wales and we are about to be overwhelmed when Labour gets in. Sorry to be melodramatic, but things are very serious and once draconian laws are in place, they’re very difficult to remove.
I’d love to hear what Bob Newhart made of gender ideology.
Yes 2024 is squaring up as a bit of a make or break year for Terf Island and Eire.
I'm trying to not panic and focus on the methods of counter attack:
1. Changing policies and practices in organisations;
2. Political lobbying to those who might listen eg currently around the Liz Truss Bill and the Hate Crime Bill in Ireland ( and see what happened with the No Vote)
3. Legal challenges including potentially direct challenges to pieces of or parts of legislation eg For Women Scotland going to the Supreme Court.
I don't want to just be sat here typing 'This is really terrible' if you follow me 😊
Bob Newhart would have taken gender ideology apart I reckon!!
No of course not Dusty and that’s what’s good about your substack….lots of information pointing the way to possible solutions and fight backs. Sorry if I sounded gloomy, I shouldn’t have listened to two hate speech podcasts within two hours. 😆🤪
If you read through the comments to EDI or JL you'll find much more gloom and even despair - all of which is fully understandable.
As you know this is why I throw in film clips etc We need our light relief!! I thought Cate Blanchett was brilliant as Elizabeth BTW!!
To quote the other queen:
JK Rowling “I was set free because my greatest fear had been realized, and I still had a daughter who I adored, and I had an old typewriter and a big idea. And so rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”😎
The jester’s piece was brilliant, wasn’t it? Amie’s story is so typical of the tin ear some politicians & activists have; I wish her the very best of luck & support. Scottish Widow’s owners banning the word ‘widow’! I had to 😆🤭😂.
Good luck, too, to Victoria Culf in her case against Watford Museum; this has gone past insanity when we can’t even state the truth or point out a biological fact without being hounded.
It’s an outrage that those who harmed children, like Heather Wood, should receive payouts for malpractice.
Judith Butler is as mad as a box of frogs.I don’t know how anyone takes her seriously, especially so-called academics.
Haven’t got around to the Queens Speech yet. Thanks for the Bob Newhart video; made me laugh. Ta for all this, Dusty. Will X as per.
I know, re the Butler book; I think she mistook a dream for reality. I wouldn’t have reviewed her book for love nor money. I’ve emailed some articles to you that I think will interest you.
For my Irish readers

Friends & family welcome. Placards will be provided.
If anyone can go I'd love to have a report back to put up in an update 😊 Hope it goes well

Don't apologise, TT

Cate Blanchett is brilliant in most things and wise words from a brilliant wordsmith.
Yes, we’re heading towards rock bottom so in the words of that classical piece of highbrow music “ I get knocked down, I get up again”. 😄
Ooh, I might feature that 😂
Thanks TT

You're welcome, Liz.
Victoria Culf was just having a chat - it's extraordinary, isn't it!!
Apparently Ms Wood is going to have a bit of a road trip with all her dosh. How lovely for her 😖
Lovely demolition job on Butler's book. That reviewer should have been paid extra for having to read that drivel!!
