having to contest a book that contains sexual content and adult themes that is available to our kids as young as 11 in our school. I think that the school doesn’t
think theres anything wrong with it. I have some things to say. But i need a good answer to a response like…. Well we have many classics that contain adult themes, including sexual content, we also have the bible which has depictions of genocide and rape, so why would we ban this and not them.
So in a pressured environment i’m trying to figure out how to answer that sort of question in a concise intelligent way. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. I need a knock out simple answer. Thanks Dusty.
I would be interested to know what this book is and what it says but I am not an expert on the law and guidance on schools. Obviously I think that this stuff should not be presented to children. I think you should go to Safe Schools Alliance and/or Transgender Trend for chapter and verse on this and hope they can assist.

Is there anyone who could go with you to back up the points you make? Make notes before you go and keep a record of what’s said so that, even if you don’t get anywhere this time, there may be some way that you can challenge what they say at a future date. ….especially as Transgender Trend is very small and may not be able to respond straight away. KJK has offered to go with people who are within reasonable travelling distance.
hi Ms Terfin, thanks, i’ve emailed transgender trend and asked a friend, i’ll be ok to go by myself. Its pretty simple what i’m asking for and i’ll just be honest and say that i consider it a safe guarding issue and i’ve already written to ofsted to ask what the official position is- if there is one. I’m always friendly and polite to people but i’m not bothered about them thinking i’m a tosser. The kids are too important and i have friends. Still its not a nice thing to basically accuse teachers of failing as i genuinely have a huge amount of respect and gratitude for them. Have a nice day. Off to do a 13 mile run with two of the mums now- more marathons this year. I’ll be tapping you up for sponsorship at some point- running for a charity that sends girls to schools in poor countries.

my latest thought- i can hardly text my hands are freezing! but its….. the classics were written by adults and intended for adults, these books that i object to are written by adults containing adult themes, but marketed and sold to children - 14 plus. Children are children and are entitled to the highest safeguarding practices. Young adults are 18-25s. 14-17 are children. Adults don’t get to talk to children about sex. To do so is grooming.
I must say I was surprised at Davina McCall; thought she had more sense than to fall for such guff. My go-to gurus are the same as yours; KJK & the Jester as well as Mr Menno, who does fab videos. You can blow your own trumpet ant time you like, Dusty with the quality of your work. I’m happy to blow your trumpet on twitter, oops X, each time you post. @PittParents retweeted your last piece & they have thousands of followers (mostly in the US).
