I had better very swiftly say that the main cook in our house (and a very wonderful cook) is my wife but, somehow, a tradition has arisen of me doing the Christmas meal. The most stressful part, IMO, is not getting the turkey right but getting the roasties right! And I got them right 😇
We waved goodbye to our daughter and the last of the grandchildren last night and peace returned...and the cat moved back indoors! Our adult grandson's (very hyperactive) Cocker Spaniel was present during the last three days and the cat decided it was safest to stay in the garage! Quite often when I was cooking I would have the Spaniel sat there staring at me waiting for the next titbit.

Ha ha, one daughter came with her cat which had to stay locked in the bedroom away from our German shepherd. They went home this morning and the dog spent ages sniffing every corner of the bedroom. I’m glad your assistant is back indoors.
Re: the school’s guidance. I’ve done this update now and it’s particularly useful to see how you and others are sure that although it is guidance, it is based on the law and that teachers could find themselves prosecuted for failing to safeguard children. This is very reassuring, thanks for the excellent explanations and videos Dusty. Mr Menno 👏
Re the schools' guidance, look how long it took the DfE to produce this! They are not going to publish it if they think it has a wobbly legal basis. My guess is that the leaked legal advice was early advice that was later overridden. I would love to see the actual advice though and don't know if any of our GC heroes might get hold of it. No doubt there are TRAs within the government legal department!
I have known many cases in the past where a local authority's failure to follow guidance has led to them losing a court case ( normally they would concede if challenged) and radically changing their policies to comply with the guidance in question. Guidance is just guidance but should not be underrated!
