Why was the obnoxious bully not sent off the basketball court as soon as he had injured another player? Doesn't basketball have rules about that sort of behaviour?

Hi Sarah

I am not an expert on basketball but, as far as I am aware ( I stand to be corrected), in most cases, it is illegal to take a basketball out of someone’s hand. This is because it is considered a form of physical contact, which is not permitted in most basketball games. In addition, attempting to take the ball away from another player could be seen as an act of aggression, which could lead to a foul being called. To say nothing of flinging her to the ground! So yes should have been sent off I would have thought at the very least! Aside from his use of his superior physical strength!

Any basketball fans out there who can confirm all this?

It's true that in netball you are not allowed to take the ball from someone's hands, I would have thought it would be the same in basketball.

Hi Sarah

I think that is correct. In any event, even if he had not - basically - assaulted that girl, he should not have been playing basketball at all, of course, due to his enormous physical advantages. So it is appalling from several angles!!

I agree that even if the TIM had behaved impeccably it would still be wrong and unfair. But the fact that he was not punished for the violence of his actions on the court and breaking the rules of the game (when presumably an actual biological woman would have been) indicates fear on the part of the referee/umpire overseeing the game. It speaks to pressure being brought to bear, behind the scene that makes the player actually untouchable.

Or else once you sacrifice fairness by including a man in a women's game, it's impossible to maintain any standards at all.

That's an excellent point, Sarah , and I am sure you are right and , as you say, links in to the fear of being seen to be 'discriminating'. Look where that got us in the Commons last week!! I may use a quote from you in the next update if that is ok? Can be 'from a reader' or name you?

Thanks again

A marathon report, Dusty. Thank you. Agree with you & TT about the basketball bully; it’s a disgrace. I think if all the women downed tools, so to speak, these bullying men, would be forced to leave every female sport for good. Will post on X as usual.

Thanks, Liz.

Yes I think they should have not gone into that game at all ( would have saved three girls from getting injured!!).

Thanks as ever for sending around 😊

Mum loved the Quiet Man, I know it well.

Limerick hospital 😳

Warrior Crone! I love it. We could have called ourselves WCs but that wouldn’t really work. 😀

Trudeau is the perfect example of power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Excellent Queen’s Speech and Equality Not Care.

So much to digest here, thanks Dusty, so I’ll just make the observation that gender ideology legislation is riddled with unintended consequences ( or should I say intended) and the changing of the words breast milk to human milk has resulted in the abomination of males feeding babies with hormone induced fluid which is now being touted as even better than breast milk.

I thought you'd like The Quiet Man. Does every Irish person know that film plus Ryan's Daughter and now The Banshees of Inisherin?

Just when you thought you couldn't be shocked any more along come the Milk Men!!!

Varadkar walking out as Ben Scallan asks him a question is priceless if you haven't watched that yet !!

I don’t know the Banshees but I have watched the Scallan clip. My comment about Trudeau equally applies to Varadkar.

I laughed at you saying that a draw for Italy was something to celebrate but I know what you mean.

I recommend the Banshees.

I am afraid it is a very, very long time since they have won a Six Nations game - plus they missed a kick at the end!!

The director is Martin McDonagh who also did Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri and In Bruges. Those also recommended😎

BTW I loved the Warrior Crones 🤣
