Gosh , that's wonderful. Hope it starts an avalanche of similar judgements. Well done to the judge. Thanks ,Dusty.

Thank you for this good news, Dusty. As much as I criticise the Cass Review for failing to tackle the issue of cross-sex ideation at its root, I’m profoundly glad for any prevention of harm, especially against children!

Hi Becca

I'm still reeling from this judgment!!!

I look on the Cass review in two parts so to speak.

It establishes that the 'treatment' doesn't work and is harmful -so stop it. Good start!

However, Dr Cass was not asked what she thought about so called 'gender dysphoria' and clearly she believes in it - ie. she thinks there are 'trans children'!! I agree with Dr Miriam Grossman ( Lost in Trans Nation) that, at most, it is a symptom of something else and you don't treat symptoms you look for the underlying cause. Some people (eg Barry Wall, Kat Highsmith...) would even say that 'gender dysphoria' doesn't really exist. There are just distressed and confused children.

I would like to write more about this some time but...getting the time to do it!!!!!

👏 fantastic news but its incredible that someone speaking common sense is cause for celebration.

I agree with you about Cass but I also think that Dr Grossman is basically saying that dysphoria doesn’t exist as a separate condition, that it’s a symptom of underlying problems, same as Barry Wall etc. The underlying causes create dysphoria because dysphoria is the latest ‘diagnosis’. In the past it would have been a different diagnosis. That’s only my opinion though and is probably a load of twaddle. 😁

Hi TT

Yes it is strange but, given the situation in Australia to date, it is an amazing breakthrough.

I agree with that and think that the discussion between Jordan P and Clementine Breen really reveals how believing ( or being persuaded) that you are 'born in the wrong body' is just a feature of an overarching problem, in Clementine's case the sexual abuse that she had not managed to address.

Once a proper therapist started addressing that with her she kind of found peace with herself!!

Agree Dusty and the more things to celebrate, the better.

I know, I’m shocked too because I’d assumed the TRAs in Australia had managed to effectively discredit the Cass review, or had at least brushed it under the carpet.

I agree with you about ‘gender dysphoria’ and would value reading your thoughts when you get time. I know you’ve been so busy with updates recently, it’s much appreciated :)

Hi Becca

Yes Bernard Lane has been tracking the attempts to sweep under the carpet so this was not expected at all!!

I have a draft in place but obviously need to fill it out. I may have to park the news for a while to get it done!!

Justice Strum has clearly informed himself well about the ‘gender medicine’ controversy and provides a clearly reasoned and compassionate judgment. As should be expected. But rare. He can obviously think critically.

Hi Vivianne

Yes indeed, what a refreshing change.

I haven't read it yet but a very long judgment is probably a sign that he knows it will get appealed and he wants to try and make it watertight! Here's hoping!

Yes, it was the success I was asking about. Is this decision so out of left-field that it is open to a successful appeal, or have there been subtle signs that the judiciary are ready to challenge the prevalent dogma before now? I hope some of our friends over there can shed a bit of light on the context. I'll keep an eye out for Bernard's take on it, too.

Do you have any idea whether this judgment was unexpected, Dusty (or any reader in Australia)?

Dusty Masterson's avatar

Hi Jeremy

Well I presume that some people there knew the case was ongoing but as to whether they thought it would be so successful in our Terfy terms I don't know!! It certainly shocked me!!!! Bernard Lane has been reporting on the refusal to accept or obfuscation over the Cass Review there in an almost resigned manner. Can any Aussie or Kiwi readers out there assist?

Hi, Dusty. You've probably seen that Bernard Lane has written about the case here: https://www.genderclinicnews.com/p/all-options-open. It looks as if the judge has anticipated an appeal, since the judgment is 58,000 words long!

Hi Jeremy

I hadn’t yet come across this, thanks. Look forward to reading Bernard. Yes the judgment is enormous. Hope the judge has made it watertight!

This comment is both hilarious and so frustratingly descriptive of the circular referencing happening in this area:

"The judge noted that Associate Professor L was among the authors of the gender-affirming Australian Standards of Care and Treatment Guidelines (ASCTG) for trans and gender diverse children and adolescents. “[I]n cross-examination, Associate Professor L conceded that her opinion that the ASCTG is ‘best practice’ was essentially tantamount to her agreeing with herself.” "

I live in Australia and didn't even know about this case, so yes, I'm very surprised! I hope this judgement means we can (eventually?) look for a repeal of the conversion practices ban, which explicitly criminalises any attempt to 'change or supress a person's 'gender identity' in my state of NSW.

Hi Eriko

I hope it might start a bit of a turn around there. You sorely need it!! As do we here in the UK - we are expecting a conversion practices bill at any moment.

Living in Australia and reading this article on the ABC website the other day - 'Prescribing puberty blockers to trans teenagers is not as morally or medically contentious as it seems' by Rach Cosker-Rowland, I'm also glad to read about this. Thanks Dusty.

You're welcome, Helen.

Like all of the state broadcasters in the Anglosphere countries, ABC are totally captured by the gender ideologues.

Great judgment...and about time too!!
