The news and views are still rolling in to Dusty, Towers, dear readers, so this is another two parter.
Hope you all enjoyed the Terf Month speeches. Now back to Film Season.
Here is the list: https://dustymasterson.substack.com/p/empire-of-light-dustys-film-series Please let me have any further suggestions.
Next up is American History X. The main character is a violent Nazi, Derek Vinyard who eventually ends up in prison. Inside he befriends a black man, Lamont and eventually sees the error of his ways ( sounds twee but it is very well done). When he is released he has to try and stop his younger brother, Danny heading in the same direction as him.
To me, Derek is a bit like a trans rights activist who has realised that what he has been supporting is utter, dangerous nonsense but then faces the vilification from his former friends and allies. It is a story of redemption.
All thoughts gratefully received.
If they are going to come for me, they are going to come for me. There ain’t nothing I can do about it.
Edward Norton is Derek Vinyard
Edward Furlong is Danny Vinyard
Beverly D’Angelo is their mother, Doris Vinyard
Stacey Keach is Cameron Alexander
Guy Torry is Lamont

Australia - Victory for Billboard Chris
Wonderful news that Chris Elston (aka Billboard Chris) and X have won their case against the Australian eSafety Commissioner. The judgment is here:
https://adfinternational.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/AU-tribunal-decision_Chris-Elston-case.pdf
The Deputy President of the Tribunal stated: “The applications before this tribunal have their origin in a social media post insulting Teddy Cook, a transgender man. The post, which among other things refers to Teddy Cook as a woman, has been blocked in Australia as a result of action by the online safety regulator. The person who posted the material and the platform on which it was posted have both challenged the decision of the regulator to issue a removal notice. The broad question to be answered is whether the post meets the statutory definition of cyber-abuse material targeted at an Australian adult. The more focussed question is whether I can be satisfied that the necessary intention to cause serious harm to the subject of the post has been established. Based on the evidence before me, I am not satisfied that it has. Consequently, the decision of the eSafety Commissioner to issue a removal notice is set aside.”
The States - The Importance Of The Legal Cases
Genspect will be looking at the importance of legal cases on the question of so called ‘gender affirming care” at their conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico in September. I have long said that legal cases are going to be a crucial feature of winning this battle.
When Medicine Won't Police Itself, Courts Will
At The Bigger Picture: Legal experts reveal how courts became medicine's conscience
Jun 30, 2025

This September, Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy faces an extraordinary challenge. She's preparing her president-elect address for the USPATH conference while simultaneously preparing her testimony for court. The nation's most prominent youth gender clinician must craft two entirely different narratives: one for the believers, one for the judge.
Her former patient, 20-year-old detransitioner Clementine Breen, filed a landmark lawsuit alleging that Olson-Kennedy diagnosed her within minutes and threatened her parents with their daughter's suicide. According to the lawsuit, this threat was false. Breen had never expressed suicidal thoughts until after she began treatment between ages 12 and 14.
You couldn't ask for a more perfect symbol of a field in crisis: the incoming president of America's supposedly premier medical professional association, ascending to her podium while defending in court the very practices her conference celebrates. When medical authority collides with judicial scrutiny like this, it's rarely coincidental. These moments become inevitable when professional oversight fails.
Just across New Mexico this September 27-28, two starkly different conferences will convene. USPATH will gather to promote the "affirmative" model that created this crisis. Meanwhile, Genspect's The Bigger Picture conference will showcase what's filling the void medicine abandoned: safeguards, accountability, and legal precedents.

The States - The Capture Of The New York Times, Skrmetti and other issues
I featured Part 1 of Malcolm Clark’s investigation of the capture of the NYT on his substack, The Secret Gender Files here:

Here is Part 2 and features the remarkable U turn by NYT after the Skrmetti judgment!
The New York Times Wakes Up. Finally.
Why did it take a ruling by the US Supreme Court for the New York Times to stand up to the trans lobby at last?
Jun 30, 2025
The two spectacular take-downs of trans activism in the New York Times in the last week are both welcome and important. The trans lobby will only be thrust back to the fringes of political extremism from whence it emerged….if liberal America joins the effort. Martina Navratilova and Bill Maher remain isolated exceptions.
Democrats who speak up, like brave Jonah Wheeler, continue to be cancelled.
The marked change in tone from the New York Times will surely give more people like him the confidence to take a stand. A question remains though. Why did it require a ruling by the US Supreme Court for the Times to offer full-throated criticism of the medical scandal of our time?
The tragedy is the Times tried to alert the American public to the dangers of “gender affirming healthcare for children” as far back as 2022. But after the LGBTQ+ lobby reacted angrily the paper’s management beat a retreat. Then sat on the fence. Until the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Trans wrongs
American liberals are getting the message, belatedly, that serious mistakes have been made in the name of progress
Jul 01, 2025
Truth-telling time
Well, this is an interesting moment. Three major US media outlets—left-leaning and champions of “gender-affirming care,” by and large—have published solid articles unpicking the dogmas and delusions of extreme trans rights and puberty blockers.
On June 26, The New York Times had the headline “How the Gay Rights Movement Radicalized and Lost Its Way.” Meaning, it got badly misdirected by trans-queer ideology. The occasion for the article was the tenth anniversary of a judicial ruling that nationalised same-sex marriage in America, and the author, Andrew Sullivan, was a prime mover in that cause. (The newspaper had prepared the ground for him with a devastating investigative piece the week before by Nicholas Confessore: “How the Transgender Rights Movement Bet on the Supreme Court and Lost”.)
The same day as Mr Sullivan’s guest essay in The Times, The Washington Post published a confessional article by an East Coast liberal philosopher, Alex Byrne, confirming that he was among the anonymous authors of the gender dysphoria review commissioned—and not, it seems, in any way doctored—by the Trump-era US Department of Health and Human Services.
And then, last week, The Atlantic magazine allowed journalist Helen Lewis to utter some uncomfortable home truths in her article “The Liberal Misinformation Bubble About Youth Gender Medicine: How the Left Ended Up Disbelieving the Science.”
The immediate reason for this corrective coverage in the elite liberal press is the US Supreme Court’s refusal to bow down to the American medical establishment’s meme of an “overwhelming consensus” favouring “sex changes” for kids. In the Skrmetti case—involving one of many Republican state bans on hormonal and surgical transition of minors—the rights-driven, hyperbolic movement for gender-affirming care hit a wall.

Very useful and interesting discussion about the Skrmetti judgment on the Informed Dissent podcast featuring Ben Appel, Lisa Selin Davis, Cori Cohn, Eliza Mondegreen and Jamie Reed.
Writing an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal (another major journal!!), Ben Appel reminds us that, in many cases, so called gender affirming care is, effectively, conversion therapy imposed on gay and lesbian children.
‘Transgender’ Kids Usually Grow Up Gay
When I was a boy, I ‘felt’ more like a girl. Thank goodness I was left alone to become the man I am.
June 30, 2025
The U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, June 18.
After the Supreme Court upheld Tennessee’s ban on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors, “LGBT” organizations issued statements condemning the court’s decision. I’m gay, and I welcome the court’s decision. So-called gender-affirming is a new form of “conversion therapy.” Instead of “praying away the gay,” we are “transing” it away.
The practice of pediatric gender medicine began as an attempt to engineer homosexual adolescents medically into straight adults. If left alone, almost all gender-distressed children grow up to be gay, not adults who reject their natural sex.
Decades ago in Amsterdam, clinicians observed that adult transgender patients were frequently suicidal and had difficulties with social functioning. They attributed this to their inability to “pass” convincingly as the opposite sex. Thus, they thought, if a child didn’t conform to standard sex roles, why not arrest his natural development with puberty blockers and give him only opposite-sex hormones, so that he’ll never develop those unwanted sex characteristics to begin with? The “Dutch protocol” was born.
Of the first 70 adolescents to be treated with this protocol, 62 were homosexual, six were bisexual, one was heterosexual, and one didn’t know yet. One male in the original cohort died at 18 after a botched vaginoplasty. Since puberty blockers had stunted the growth of his genitals, there wasn’t enough tissue for the surgeons to fashion into something that resembled a vagina. In its place they took part of his intestine, which became infected.
Childhood nonconformity with sex roles is one of the most dependable predictors of homosexuality in adulthood. Every major study to date confirms that the majority of children who express confusion about their sex will desist by the end of puberty and grow up to be gay or lesbian. Preventing a child who expresses confusion about his sex from going through puberty prevents him from reaching the stage where that confusion might naturally resolve. Doctors who “lock in” this confusion with drugs and surgery then congratulate themselves for getting the diagnosis right.

Turkeys For Christmas
Following on from ‘Queers for Palestine’ now they are ‘for Iran’!! Andrew Doyle investigates on his substack.
Queers for Tyranny
Why do so many gay people insist on supporting a regime that wants them dead?
Jun 30, 2025
Let’s try a homophobic thought experiment. What might be the worst imaginable society for gay people to inhabit? It would probably be presided over by a Supreme Leader who describes homosexuality as a ‘moral deprivation’ that is ‘too shameful to even talk about’. It would have officials and parliamentarians who would condemn gay people as ‘diseased’, ‘lower than animals’ and claim that it is a ‘great honour’ to violate their rights. It would back up its rhetoric with action, criminalising same-sex relations, and murdering gay people in the thousands.
Of course we don’t have to imagine any of this. The dystopia is already a reality. It is estimated that since the Islamic revolution of 1979, the Iranian regime has executed between 4,000 and 6,000 gay men and lesbians. There are no legal protections for gay people in Iran and the state has been known to monitor dating apps, social media and even the possession of gay-themed books for signs of ‘moral corruption’. Put bluntly, for homosexuals, Iran is a kind of hell on earth.
This hasn’t stopped a gay rights group called LGBTI Rights Australia from posting support for the regime on Facebook with the statement: ‘Iran has a right to defend itself’. In another post, it lamented that ‘in this twisted world, imperialism means only white countries get to have nukes’. This will come as a surprise to the racially-diverse state of Israel which has, as yet, not been subjected to pressure by the evil colonial West to surrender its arms. Perhaps the problem is not so much ethnicity, but the prospect of genocidal theocrats whose stated aim is to obliterate a neighbouring country and is developing weapons precisely for that purpose?
And last Saturday’s march through London was perhaps even more egregious. Along with the usual Palestinian flags and keffiyeh headscarves – surely a blind spot for those who have been bleating endlessly about the evils of ‘cultural appropriation’ – there were open endorsements of the authoritarian theocracy of Iran. One banner featured an image of the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with the slogan ‘Choose the right side of history’.
One would be forgiven for assuming that the protest had been infiltrated by a satirist.
