Dear readers

A heads up that Mr Menno is doing a premiere tonight at 21.00 GMT discussing the Skrmetti case.

Hope to see some of you in the chat.

Great update, thanks Dusty. I really disagree with Orlando’s approach to the puberty blocker experiment though. It’s not appropriate to label children as having a form of transvestism, and in any case, fetishes are driven by the pursuit of sexual gratification not negative body image (or ‘dysphoria’). I think there are plenty of good reasons why the NHS should not go ahead with their proposed experiment on children without conflating childhood cross-sex ideation with adult paraphilic behaviour.

You're welcome, Becca.

I did feel a bit uneasy about including Orlando's piece and I agree with your analysis- the one good point he had is that the NHS are fixated on the approach of GIRES. On reflection maybe the reason that Dr Cass did not mention AGPs is because she felt that paraphilia was not relevant to children. I have previously said I prefer the approach of Dr Miriam Grossman who says that gender dysphoria is just a symptom and you do not treat a symptom. As you say there are other much better reasons for opposing a clinical trial eg the American DHHS report.

Thanks again for your excellent points which helps me to re-assess Orlando's piece.

I think you’re right to do that Dusty. It may be true that fetishism is a factor in some older teenaged boys but probably because they’ve been corrupted by porn online and trans influencers. There’s evidence of men encouraging boys to dress up as girls online so this can only contribute to fetishisation. I doubt they started out that way although I’m not an expert. Either way, there are far more relevant factors to consider regarding puberty blockers.

Thanks as ever Dusty.

You're welcome, TT.

I suppose if you use the Miriam Grossman 'method' where you are looking for the cause of GD, in the case of a small number of older teenaged boys, as you suggest, it may be AGP but , on reflection, Orlando's approach must be wrong I think.

[ Just had a gap there as I joined in chasing next door's dog who had escaped into our back gardens!]

Luckily I have featured some much more persuasive arguments against clinical trials eg.https://dustymasterson.substack.com/p/get-carter-part-2?utm_source=publication-search

Yes exactly Dusty, there’s loads of evidence of the harms. No need to confuse people.

Btw well done Ireland 👏 and love the endpieces.
