The film opens in the 1980s within the titular Rio de Janeiro favela ( a shanty town). A gang led by the ruthless drug lord Li'l Zé chases a runaway chicken. The bird halts between the gang and the film’s narrator, Rocket , a young aspiring photographer. This tense standoff frames this chronicle of the favela’s descent into violence over two decades. We return to the chicken chase at the end of the film.

The For Women Scotland Judgment - The Aftermath
While celebrating the judgment, Kellie-Jay looks to the future: we need to repeal the Gender Recognition Act and get rid of gender-reassignment from the Equality Act; people need to stop worrying about the larping men ( apart from, perhaps, reminding them that they need to get out of women’s spaces!).

Lettice Bromovsky in the Mail Online ( Father Ted and trans rights critic Graham Linehan pleads not guilty to harassing and smashing phone belonging to a transgender woman 12 May) reports:
Father Ted co-creator Graham Linehan has pleaded not guilty to harassing a transgender woman and damaging her [ Come on, The Mail!! HIS] phone.
The Irish comedy writer, 56, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court today to deny the charges of harassing Sophia Brooks on social media and damaging her mobile in October.

UK - Free Speech - Police and ‘Offensive Tweets’
This is not about gender ideology but we are, of course, very concerned on this substack about free speech and this is a good example of it being curtailed!
Shannon McGuigan in The Mail Online ( Retired policeman who tweeted about threat of anti-Semitism in Britain is ARRESTED and handcuffed in his home by six cops for 'thought crime' - before they say his collection of books is 'very Brexity' 11 May) reports:
A retired policeman was arrested and handcuffed in his own home by six police officer armed with batons and pepper spray after issuing a warning about the threat of anti-Semitism in Britain.
Julian Foulkes, from Gillingham, was detained by Kent Police cops - the very same force he had given around ten years of his life to - after he questioned a supporter of pro-Palestine demonstrations on X (formerly Twitter).
Bodycam footage of the incident in November 2023, shows officers describing the 71-year-old's books and literature scattered around his home as 'very Brexity things', according to The Telegraph.
Police also raised worries over a shopping list, written by the retired man's hairdresser wife, which included items such as bleach, tin foil and gloves, whilst they seized Mr Foulkes electronic devices from his home.
They also searched through most of his personal items, including newspaper clippings from the funeral as well as the police probe of his daughter, Francesca's death, who had been killed by a drunk driver whilst holidaying in Ibiza 15 years ago.
A copper was heard stating, according to the publication: 'Ah. That's sad,' as she continued to rummage through the retired special constable's items, before he was put in a police cell for eight hours.
After hours of interrogation on suspicion of malicious communication, the ex-police officer accepted a warning as he worried it could affect any future visits to see his daughter who resides in Australia.
'My life wouldn't be worth living if I couldn't see her. At the time, I believed a caution wouldn't affect travel, but a conviction definitely would,' he said.

I am pleased to report that the Free Speech Union are assisting Mr Foulkes in taking an action against the police:
Julian Foulkes, a retired Special Constable, was arrested and held in a cell for eight hours over a tweet warning about the threat to British Jews posed by the pro-Palestinian marches. Kent Police has now admitted it made a mistake, but we need to make sure the police stop arresting people for perfectly lawful social media posts. Julian needs your help. Please donate to his crowdfunder so we can help him sue Kent Police for compensation.
In October of 2023, he responded to a tweet criticising Suella Braverman for describing the pro-palestinian protests that were sweeping the country in the aftermath of the massacre in Southern Israel as ‘hate marches’. Julian’s tweet, which appeared underneath, said: “One step away from storming Heathrow looking for Jewish arrivals…” This was a reference to reports of an anti-Semitic mob storming an airport in Dagestan, Russia, hunting for people arriving from Israel.
Someone complained about Julian’s tweet to the Met and Metropolitan Police Intelligence Command – a specialist unit set up to deal with terrorism and extremism – referred it to Kent Police, citing “concerns around online content”. The following day, six police officers turned up at his home, ransacked the premises, arrested him, detained him for eight hours and gave him a caution.
Julian retained the services of a solicitor and, with his help, got Kent Police to admit they’d made a mistake and delete the caution from his record.
However, we don’t think Kent Police should be allowed to get away with such appalling behaviour. At one point, a police officer searching his home pointed to books by Douglas Murray and copies of the Spectator and described them as “very Brexity things”, as though that in itself was suspicious.
The emotional fallout has been devastating. Julian lost one of his daughters in a hit-and-run 15 years ago and his surviving daughter now lives in Australia. His greatest fear while he was being held in police custody was that a criminal record might prevent him from visiting her — which is why, despite having done nothing wrong, he felt compelled to accept a caution. “My life wouldn’t be worth living if I couldn’t see her,” he said.
With our help, Julian, who has now joined the Free Speech Union, is going to sue the force for wrongful arrest, as well as unlawful interference in his right to liberty. After the ordeal he was put through, he deserves to be given a substantial sum in compensation. But to hold Kent Police to account he needs your help. Please donate to his crowdfunder so he can get the justice he deserves.
Kent Police's actions point to a broader institutional failure. The authorities need to stop policing our tweets and start policing our streets.
The money raised by this crowdfunder will be used to cover the legal expenses Julian has run up so far, as well as the additional cost of suing Kent Police. Any money raised above what’s needed will be used by the FSU to fight other, similar cases.

I am an NHS [ National Health Service] GP who has cared for many women as they go through pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, also caring for their babies as they grow up. In recent years I have become alarmed by dangerous messages of trans healthcare. This NHS webpage is just one problem that I have seen on the NHS website regarding the care of women.
Given that you are now taking over the management of the NHS from NHSE [ National Health Service England] , you and the DHSC [ Department of Health and Social Care] is now responsible for the information available online in the name of the NHS. I am bringing this page to your attention, as it is spreading thoroughly misleading and inaccurate advice about chestfeeding. It should be taken down with immediate effect.
It is very clear that feeding a baby from a chest is not possible as no milk can be produced unless there are functioning breasts with intact nipple, ducts, lobules and alveoli from which the milk is produced and delivered. A woman who has had breast surgery to remove any part of the breast is likely to experience difficulty when breastfeeding her baby, particularly if ducts have been disrupted. A woman who has had “top” surgery, meaning bilateral removal of breast tissue with nipple graft or reconstruction to flatten the appearance of the chest, has none of the necessary organs to breastfeed. Indeed, a woman who has had such surgery should NOT attempt to latch a baby onto a grafted nipple as there is the potential for that graft to fail: a grafted or reconstructed nipple has no function other than cosmesis, having lost the supporting breast structure and having had the nerves cut leaving the skin and nipple with no sensation, so she might not even realise that damage is being done to her reconstruction.

Macmillan Cancer Support - Breast Binding!
Bound to Ideology: Why Is Macmillan Supporting Chest Binding?
Why are charities such as Macmillan teaming with gender ideology organisations to promote known harmful practices such as breast binding?

Macmillan will be supporting The Rainbow Project for a “Binder and Bra Fittings Information Evening” on 12 May 2025 at the Belfast Trans Resource Centre. While we hope participants are being encouraged to examine themselves for signs of breast cancer, are they also being informed that medical transitioning — such as the use of testosterone — is associated with risks including endometrial cancer? Are they aware they may require Macmillan cancer support themselves in the future as a result?
Macmillan have funded a three-year Cancer Champion pilot project to be delivered by The Rainbow Project — an activist organisation that promotes affirmative medical and social transition, including the prescribing of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to children. Why are charities such as Macmillan teaming with ideological activist organisations that promote harmful unevidenced practices, in this case breast binding? This is all the more shocking due to Macmillan’s knowledge and responsibilities to support women who have breast cancer that deal with the consequences of cancer and its treatments, which include mastectomy. Why support the damage of healthy breast tissue? We would and do condemn similar practices elsewhere.

The States - Women’s Sport

Fencer Stephanie Turner and former high school volleyball player Payton McNabb testified to members of Congress at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Subcommittee’s “Unfair Play: Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” hearing this past Wednesday.
On March 30 at the Cherry Blossom Open in Maryland, Turner was set to fence against Redmond Sullivan — a male athlete competing in the women’s division — but she took a knee and forfeited the match instead.
She was then “black carded” by USA Fencing — kicked out of the tournament and hit with a 12-month probation for refusing to compete against a male.
In 2022, McNabb suffered a permanent brain injury in high school after getting spiked in the face with the ball by a male opponent during a volleyball match. Since then she has become a leader in the movement to protect women’s sports.
At the hearing, Turner spoke eloquently about the bullying and harassment from USA Fencing directed at women, discouraging them from speaking up in their own defense.
Turner said: “There is a culture of intimidation against women [. . .] A culture that includes public humiliation, doxxing, social ostracization, dismissal and even threats.”
I have experience with sport governing bodies that do this. The leaders of USA Gymnastics did the same to gymnasts speaking out about pedophile coaches in clubs across the country as well as those heading up the national team program. This is what the governing body leaders do to protect their own reputations. In the case of USA Gymnastics leaders, they were “protecting” the reputation of the sport and the governing body because it certainly doesn’t look good for there to be sexual predators on staff abusing girls at every level of the sport. The leaders of USA Gymnastics sought to retain the image of happy little pixies dancing around — by burying abuse of athletes, in order to maintain their lucrative sponsorship packages from the likes of Proctor & Gamble.

Take the words groomers/grooming. According to some accounts they serve as a code for attacking certain groups in society. These terms are called dog-whistles by the cultural elites. According to a guide on dog whistles and hidden messages:
‘The terms ‘grooming’ and ‘groom’ have become popular dogwhistles in both the US and the UK, though they largely target different groups. In the US (and sometimes the UK), the term ‘groomer’ is used primarily to refer in a derogatory way to LGBTQ people, based on the false and defamatory stereotype that they’re attempting to make children trans or gay. In the UK, the term ‘grooming gang’ is used primarily to perpetuate stereotypes of Pakistani men, referencing some particular cases of child abuse…In both cases, users of these terms are able to fall back on the claim that they’re concerned about child abuse, rather than about trans people or Pakistani men[iii].’
As it happens the association of grooming gangs in the UK has nothing to do with perpetuating stereotypes. It just so happens that a disproportionate number of the members of UK based rape gangs are members of this community. Those who wish to cover up this inconvenient fact about how multiculturalism is a mixed blessing accuse those who tell it like it is of dog whistling.
The premise on which the concept of dog whistling is based is that there are ideas, assumptions and words that should not and ideally cannot be said in public. Its intention is to prevent certain voices from being taken seriously. In particular, the charge of dog-whistling is used to shut down discussion on matters about which the political and cultural establishment feels insecure. The British Labour Minister Lucy Powell adopted this stratagem when she reacted to a member of the populist Reform Party who raised the problem of the grooming gang scandal during the course of a television debate in May 2025. The scandal referred to the despicable behaviour of mainly Pakistani rape gangs that preyed on white working class girls in Northern England. The scandal which had been covered up for years due to the reluctance of the authorities to acknowledge how badly multiculturalism went wrong finally became a public issue in 2024. Lucy Powell responded by dismissing the scandal as a ‘dog whistle issue’ and hoped that her comment would close the discussion down[iv]. In this instance her comment had the opposite effect and instead of silencing discussion of the rape gangs it led to a public outcry led by the families of the victims of the rape gangs.

Really shocking about the information from the NHS, why hasn’t Streeting done anything. And disgusting from Macmillan, I won’t be donating to a charity which helps young girls to bind their breasts. Just when we think we’re making some progress we get a multitude of kicks in the teeth. The more we learn about what’s going on, the more we realise just what a good job the ideologues have done in embedding the insanity everywhere. In fact the picture in the endpiece just about sums up what we have been facing for years now.
