Dusty, if every person who still thinks that it is kind to affirm a child’s gender identity was forced to sit quietly and read this update slowly, in order to answer questions on it afterwards, I don’t think the insanity would last much longer, at least in the UK. There are so many powerful pieces here and so much to concern us still, particularly with Labour at the helm. The letter from Dr. Chrysostom is incredible and should wake up anyone who still doesn’t understand. But there’s so much more here in terms of the curtailment of our freedoms and the galloping of the govt towards ever increasing authoritarianism- just at a time when we need our voices more than ever.

Thanks Dusty, you’re doing an amazing job.

You're welcome, TT.

As I constructed this particular update I did think 'gosh, this is like a primer for Terfs!' If I say so myself if someone said they were unsure what to think you could just say to them 'read this update'.

Where to begin? Sarah Phillimore’s piece on free speech; the ‘well-being’ state interference into parenting; Dr Chrysostom’s magnificent letter to the Prime Minister & Rex Landy’s persecution. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the feeling that you’re fighting on several fronts at once.

Good news about #LWS Portishead & the publication of Terf Island. Mia’s speech to Genspect is enlightening about the ‘spiral of silence’. Thanks a bunch, Dusty, for all the great work you do. #BeMorePorcupine #HoldTheLine #SaveFreeSpeech #LGB ✂️TQ+

You're welcome, Liz. As I said in response to TT this has ended up as a great collection of pieces, a kind of primer almost!

Great hashtags 😊

I'm in two minds about the PITT article, but I can't put my finger on why. On the one hand, it feels like special pleading and trying to put the blame on others to get out of admitting that raising the boys went wrong. However, I have said elsewhere that girls trans out of oppression, so is there a real sense in which some boys are doing the same? When I was younger, I more than once said to friends "I'm not a man, I'm not a woman, I'm Jeremy", and meant it, partly because I didn't like being shoehorned into a category based on being very tall, broad, and bearded. Is what these boys are doing just an extension of that? I don't know, but that article doesn't sit comfortably with me.

Hi Jeremy

I like 'I'm Jeremy' . It's difficult to know I think because at the end of the day we don't know the full story of this parent and her son. However I am impressed by those mothers especially whose children have completely disowned them and joined the cult and then the woman in question decides to stand in the front line and fight the Terf battle! Ute Heggen, Still Tish, Terf Vibes etc

There is a reader of this substack who has lost her daughter to the cult. When I featured the film 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri' about a woman whose teenage daughter has been raped and murdered, the reader said she wept as she watched the whole film because it is almost like the child dying!!!

I'm not sure any of that helps you with the PITT article!!!

It is really difficult. I know there mothers who are excellent fighters, and that it is definitely not all down to parenting in all cases. I doubt I'm going to come to any sensible conclusions any time soon.

Undoubtedly the biggest problem involves those parents who either go along with the child’s confusion or who actively encourage the child!!!
