The Fly 2
Update 739. Legal Challenges Special. #BeMorePorcupine.
I am coming forward a bit early due to the flood of important news and views, dear readers. I am drafting this while listening to Mr Menno’s latest ( which I am now going to include hot off the press!!), so let me know if there are any typos!!!
Onwards with the Dusty, Nicola and Moodie Film Series. Please keep the suggestions for films coming in but please check the list first which I am updating as we go along. Please send suggestions in the comments here at this link:
The Fly is a 1986 American horror film directed and co-written by David Cronenberg, loosely based on the 1958 film of the same name ( see last update).
Seth Brundle, a brilliant but eccentric scientist, meets Ronnie Quaife, a science journalist, at a press event. He takes her back to his home and laboratory and shows her his invention: a set of “telepods” that allows instantaneous teleportation between them. Seth convinces Ronnie to keep the invention secret in exchange for exclusive rights to the story, and she documents his work. Although the telepods can transport inanimate objects, they mutilate live tissue, as demonstrated when a baboon is turned inside-out during an experiment.
Seth and Ronnie begin a romantic relationship. Their first sexual encounter, in which Seth loses his virginity, inspires Seth to reprogram the telepod to understand the make up of living tissue. After he successfully teleports a second baboon, Ronnie hurriedly leaves to confront her editor Stathis Borans about his threat, spurred by his jealousy of Seth, to publish the story without her consent. Embittered and convinced she is rekindling her relationship with Stathis, Seth teleports himself alone, unaware that a housefly has slipped inside the transmitter pod with him. He emerges from the receiving pod seemingly normal.
Jeff Goldblum is Seth.
I don’t know the name of the baboon😊
Stop press: The baboon’s name was Typhoon and, apparently, he could prove very, very difficult on set!!😂
Thanks to three wonderful readers for suggested pieces.
Some of the linked pieces below may be behind a paywall.
Belfast Case
BBC News reports on the case begun last week where Sara Morrison is suing Belfast Film Festival:
Woman backed by JK Rowling ‘not opposed to trans rights’ - tribunal
Sara Morrison has brought a case against Belfast Film Festival where she worked as an inclusion and audience development coordinator
By Lyndsey Telford
10 November 2025
A woman who claims she was unlawfully discriminated against for her beliefs by her former employer has told a tribunal she was not opposed to transgender rights.
Sara Morrison has brought a case against Belfast Film Festival (BFF) where she worked as an inclusion and audience development coordinator.
In her claim, she says she was forced out of her job after she joined a rally for Let Women Speak in 2023. The BFF launched an investigation into her attendance and she left work citing stress.
During a speech she made at the rally, Ms Morrison outlined concerns around protecting women’s safety and privacy.
The BFF has denied her claim of discrimination.
It is Ms Morrison’s view that a person cannot change their biological sex.
Ms Morrison, who has received funding for her case from Harry Potter author JK Rowling, says she attended the event in a private capacity and that her beliefs had no bearing on her ability to do her job.
The rally in Belfast city centre was also addressed by Kellie-Jay Keen - a campaigner for women’s rights.
A counter event by local LGBTQ+ groups and activists opposed to her views was held at the same time nearby.
Ms Morrison submits that following her attendance at the rally, she was subjected to online abuse and harassment, which she reported to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
She was subsequently informed by her employer that it would be carrying out an investigation on the back of complaints made by the LGBTQ+ community.
The BFF also confirmed it was investigating the matter in a social media post, in reply to an LGBT organisation, adding: “We want to reassure you that the Belfast Film Festival passionately supports your values. We will celebrate and defend them.”
In her claim, Ms Morrison says she viewed the BFF as aligning itself to those who had harassed her, which was detrimental to her receiving fair and impartial treatment.

Belgian Parents Sue Hospital
Hermes Postma on the Genspect substack, Inspecting Gender reports on two parents suing a hospital after their daughter, who was put on testosterone after only one appointment, committed suicide.
Belgian Parents Sue Hospital Over Rushed Medical Transition Following Teen’s Death
Lawsuit cites inadequate assessment and same-day hormone prescription after single consultation
Nov 11, 2025
Last week, Belgium was shocked by the news that Aero, a trans-identified 18-year-old, had died by suicide after beginning medical transition last year. Television coverage on VTM, Belgium’s largest television channel, brought national attention to the case.
According to the parents, everything happened extremely quickly. Aero was given the go-ahead for testosterone treatment in March 2024 after just one meeting with the head of the gender clinic and one session with a psychologist. A prescription was issued on the same day, and the first dose of testosterone was administered just two days later.
Lawsuit and Top Lawyer Walter Van Steenbrugge
Aero’s parents are angry that treatment began after a consultation lasting barely 50 minutes. They are also questioning whether any alternatives to medical intervention were considered. Following Aero’s tragic death, the parents filed a complaint against AZ Groeninge Hospital in Kortrijk with the support of lawyer Walter Van Steenbrugge, who frequently takes on media-focused and controversial cases.

British Boll***s Corporation
After the resignation of the Director General and the Head of News ( which we reported on two days ago) Cath Leng on the SEEN In Journalism podcast interviews Sam Smith & Edwina Wolstencroft (both former BBC journalists). They feel that the resignations were more to do with the problems of reporting ‘gender’ issues than the splicing of the President Trump speech albeit the BBC are attempting to just refer to the latter. The re-write of the notorious ‘style guide’ is being kicked further into the long grass ostensibly waiting for the guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission which guidance the Government are now putting off for up to a further year - see here:

Australia - Anna Cody
From Feminist Legal Clinic via The Australian:
Secret email shows Anna Cody plotted move against UN women’s rights investigator | The Australian (11 November)
All entries on Feminist Legal Clinic’s News Digest Blog are extracts from news articles and other publications, with the source available at the link at the bottom. The content is not generated by Feminist Legal Clinic and does not necessarily reflect our views.
Australia’s under-fire Sex Discrimination Commissioner Anna Cody secretly queried whether any influence could be used to block the reappointment of a senior UN human rights official who had strongly opposed radical trans ideology and who sought to intervene against the landmark sex discrimination case brought by trans woman Roxanne Tickle.
In an internal email to Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) chief executive Leanne Smith, obtained by The Australian under freedom of information laws, Dr Cody criticises the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, Reem Alsalem, over her “intervention on issues of trans women and their rights”.
Dr Cody asks Ms Smith whether the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) – of which the AHRC is a member – “can have any role in influencing the reappointment of special procedures and express a view about the inappropriateness of an appointment”.
Ms Alsalem told The Australian she was “disappointed but not surprised” by Dr Cody’s move, pointing out that the UN Human Rights Council placed great emphasis on protecting its special rapporteurs – independent human rights investigators – from “interference, intimidation, or reprisals”. “I find Ms Cody’s judgement of how I do my work rather ironic given that it is coming from her,” Ms Alsalem said. “At least I am able to clearly define the subject of my mandate – women and girls – and their sex as biologically female. As I have said in my opening remarks at the Human Rights Council session of June 2024, ‘you cannot protect what you cannot define’.”
Dr Cody has been the subject of mounting calls to resign in recent weeks over claims she has promoted trans rights over women’s rights, and after telling a Senate estimates committee she didn’t understand the term biological men.

New Zealand - College of Midwives Goes Woo!
Our friend, Katrina Biggs reports on her substack, A B’Old Woman:
NZ College of Midwives considers using the abomination known as “inclusive language” in its communications.
First the Midwifery Council, now the College of Midwives - is there no end to organisations that want to erase women and girls in the written word?
Nov 11, 2025
There it was. Smack-bang in the middle of the list of news items in the NZ College of Midwives’ October newsletter, was the request for “expressions of interest for an inclusive language work group”. It’s the best spot for something you have to make known, but really don’t want too much attention paid to.
So far, unlike the Midwifery Council, the College of Midwives has managed to keep their language female-centred. But, transactivists and gender idealogues seep into all organisations, and relentlessly push to make changes which prioritise the feelings of the miniscule fringe group who chooses to claim they’re the opposite sex to that which they were born. Or non-binary. Or gender fluid. Or ‘queer’. Or whatever takes their fancy to declare themselves as on any given day.
Conceding to this nonsense has been a grave mistake. That miniscule group and their ‘champions’ should have been told right at the beginning not to be ridiculous and go away. The ‘soft sell’ from them was too well done, though, and the product - i.e. trans/gender ideology - was such a novelty that no one really understood the potential it had to wreak havoc. Women and girls in particular have suffered the loss of their sex-based rights due to capitulation to the demands of men who say they’re women.
And now we have the College of Midwives, for whom women are the sole reason for its existence, wanting to form a working group to take women-centred language out of its communications to appease a fringe group with multiple messy issues. Clear and concise language about women will be replaced with with vague references instead, and they call this abomination “inclusive language”. You can’t make this up.

Further to the last update and the piece by Jean Hatchet , here is the piece on the Reality’s Last Stand substack by Keira Bell and Aaron Kimberly that I think Jean was referring to. Whilst I am extremely sympathetic, of course, to the situation they have ended up in, I do agree with Jean Hatchet’s piece. All thoughts gratefully received.
https://www.realityslaststand.com/p/the-myth-of-detranstion?publication_id=225618&r=1v403b
In a piece on another matter, Karen Davis also refers to this issue and, basically, agrees with Jean Hatchet:
199 Days March in London
We previously reported on this. Mr Menno provides us with his report on it. Wish I’d been there! Some great speeches and a great atmosphere.
Terf Island Discs
Thanks to an excellent suggestion from Tenaciously Terfin, we have paused Endpieces for the time being and we are giving Tenaciously and Liz a well earned rest from their hard work. So, since 07 July, we have been running Terf Island Discs.
We have decided to extend that one last time and then return to Endpieces.
Before we detail the extension, Endpieces, as regular readers will know, consisted of comic pieces, animal videos, songs etc to provide a bit of relief after some of the horror stories we detail on this substack. Endpieces was run by Tenaciously Terfin, Liz Parker and myself and we are delighted to now have been joined by Becca Shambles, Petal and Jeremy Wickins. Please let us know if you want to join the Endpieces Club 😊
I have an Endpieces folder so Endpieces suggestions can be sent to me at any time from now even though Terf Island Discs will definitely be going into the new year 😊
Back to Terf Island Discs. Several readers have chosen up to 8 songs or pieces of music each and we are going through those one at a time in each update. We are going to continue it one further time before returning to Endpieces and you can now choose up to 10 songs or pieces of music each. They need to be reasonably short. We can’t expect to have readers listening to the whole of Holst’s The Planets, albeit it is magnificent.
They don’t have to be from Terf Island BTW - anywhere in the world 😊
So for those who have already chosen 8, please choose 2 more and, if you have not yet taken part, please choose 10!! And if you have chosen from 1 to 7 so far, please top that up to 10. If you repeat a song or piece of music that has already been chosen, I’ll let you know and you can choose another one.
Please let us have a link if you can.
Please send your choices to the comments section here:

A journalist called Nick Wallis did a great primer on Sarah Morrisons case: https://genderblog.net/sara-morrison-v-belfast-film-festival/. He's live-blogging the Tribunal and emailing daily précis to subscribers, too. I think I first came across him with his coverage of Sandie Peggie's Tribunal - he's definitely one of us!
Thanks Dusty, I agree with you about the Jean Hatchet piece and the detransitioners wanting to use the word trans. We can’t afford to make exceptions in order to ‘be kind’. That’s what got us into this mess in the first place.
