The Telegraph reports that Tennessee is set to become the first US state to outlaw drag shows in public places or in front of children, as other Republican legislatures look to follow suit.
Lawmakers in both the House and Senate have passed a bill to prohibit “adult cabaret entertainment” from public property and limit performances to age-restricted venues.
The bill defined such entertainment as including “adult-oriented” performances by strippers, go-go dancers or “male or female impersonators”.
Supporters of the legislation, which is now with Bill Lee, the Republican Governor, say it is intended to protect children.
"It gives confidence to parents that they can take their kids to a public or private show and will not be blindsided by a sexualised performance," Tennessee Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson, a Republican, said in a statement.

JL is very busy with another excellent Glinner Update. This contains numerous videos showing the TRAs breaking park rules by using amplification, banging drums and other items and shouting abuse and threats. Signs included one saying ‘Kill Terfs’. The police failed to do what they did in Newcastle and Glasgow namely to keep the TRA thugs at a distance. They were right on top of the women. Though we could hear the speeches on You Tube, people there could not hear them unless they were right next to the speaker. Well done to the brave stewards and others who joined hands to create a line.

The Times
Well done to the Times for continuing their objective and balanced reporting on gender critical issues. Here are a few examples:
In Trans U-turn is belated victory for free speech ( 25 February), Janice Turner writes about the change of policy at the New York Times (NYT).
Regarding medical ‘transitioning’ of children , she writes:
…few American journalists touched this story. Those who dared, such as Jesse Singal at The Atlantic, endured violent threats and cancelled work, as trans activists argued it was bigotry even to question the ethics of transitioning children.
Finally the NYT is covering this story in a proper fashion. Facing up to TRAs within the NYT, the editor Joe Kahn is quoted as saying:
We live in an era when journalists regularly come under fire for doing solid and essential work. We are committed to protecting and supporting them.
In a further article ( Why we loathe older women 25 February) Janice Turner reviews the book by Victoria Smith, Hags: The Demonisation of Middle-Aged Women. Turner writes:
This eloquent, clever and devastating book describes the last remaining acceptable prejudice, one that is now even posited as progress: the loathing of older women. I wish younger feminists would read it too because the dumbest thing about joining a witch-hunt is you’re only burning your future self.
Finally, in Female prison ban for trans inmates comes into force ( 27 February) , James Beal reports on the barring of trans identifying males (TIMs) from women’s prisons although ( unfortunately in my opinion) there will be exemptions in exceptional cases.
In March of last year in England and Wales, 49 TIMs were in women’s prisons. In Scotland, five of the 11 TIMs in prison were in women’s prisons.
Until next time, Terven. It’s not over yet! Please subscribe for free, like and comment.
