Repeal The GRA!!!
Update 821. And Stand With The People Of Iran. #BeMorePorcupine.
I am just jumping in quickly with two important pieces of news.
Firstly, there was a very brief meeting of Let Women Speak at Reformers’ Tree before they went off to join the Iranians celebrating the death of the Ayatollah and the American and Israeli strikes on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Core ( the IRGC).
One of the speeches ( see below) was from Annaïg Birdy of the group Not All Gays with the wonderful news that they have drafted a Private Member’s Bill to Repeal the Gender Recognition Act 2004 and had it looked at by some eminent lawyers. Watch this space!
And, I join with the celebrations of the ordinary Iranian people and especially the women and gay people. Let’s hope this leads to a free and democratic Iran.

With regard to Private Member’s Bills:
Private Member’s Bills (PMBs) are public bills introduced by UK MPs or Peers who are not government ministers, providing a way for backbenchers to propose new laws. They follow the same parliamentary stages as government bills but have limited time, usually only passing if they have government support or cross-party consensus.
How PMBs Work and Get Introduced
The Ballot (Highest Success Rate): At the start of each parliamentary session, 20 MPs are drawn in a ballot, giving them priority to schedule their bills for debate.
Time and Debate: Thirteen Fridays are typically allocated per session for considering PMBs. Because PMBs are not timetabled by the government, they often struggle to pass all stages.
Success Factors: Successful PMBs often have government backing, known as a “hand-out Bill” which helps them pass through the necessary stages in both Houses.
