We are now in Terf Month ( to counteract Queer Month) and we are featuring great speeches on the theme of women’s rights. Please keep those suggestions coming in. Please send a link if you can. Thanks to those readers who have already sent in great suggestions.
Next up is Joanna Cherry MP speaking in the House of Commons to celebrate Lesbian Visibility Week on 25 April 2024. Hopefully the visibility of lesbians in the UK is improving after the Supreme Court judgment.
Thanks to three wonderful readers for suggested pieces.
Some of the linked pieces below may be behind a paywall.
Lucy Connolly
I reported on Lucy’s failed appeal here:
https://dustymasterson.substack.com/p/thought-crime-the-lucy-connolly-appeal
After re-posting Lucy’s original tweet in solidarity with her, 26 year old Tyler James Kay has now been jailed for 38 months!!!! By the way this report is somewhat inaccurate because Lucy did not actually call for asylum hotels to be burnt down.
Anyway, more shocking two tier justice! All thoughts gratefully received.

UK - Wrong Sex Hormones
There has been an important ( though long overdue) step forward regarding the provision of wrong sex ( or cross sex )hormones to children under 18 as reported by Transgender Trend on their website:
Ban on cross-sex hormones to be considered after court rejects application for JR
Post published:June 6, 2025
An application for a judicial review of the Secretary of State’s decision to ban puberty blockers but not cross-sex hormones was heard in the High Court on 21st May. The case was brought by Keira Bell together with two parents. NHS England was an interested party.
Although the Court refused permission for a judicial review, the outcome of bringing the application was a victory for the claimants: the Secretary of State, Wes Streeting, has established a working group to review the prescription of cross-sex hormones to minors by private providers. A decision on whether to impose a ban on cross-sex hormones will be announced in July.
Keira Bell said she was “relieved that the Secretary of State is now actively considering a ban on cross-sex hormones outside of the NHS” despite this being “long overdue”.
“These powerful drugs should not be given to children and young people. Not only are the drugs life-changing at a time when so much is uncertain and changing, but so many children and young people are struggling with trauma and are experiencing confusion during their development.
“The safety of vulnerable children and young people should be a first priority. It now looks like that is beginning to happen.”
The court case
The claimants brought the case on the basis that it was irrational and unlawful for the government to ban puberty blockers but not impose a similar ban on cross-sex hormones when the safety profile and inadequate evidence base was the same for both. The Cass Review had also made it clear that children were put at risk through access to both blockers and hormones from private and overseas providers.
The initial response from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) was that it remained “neither necessary nor appropriate” to ban cross sex hormones. But this changed on receipt of the expert reports of Professor Riittakerttu Kaltiala from Finland and Professor Jovanna Dahlgren from Sweden.
The full piece including details of the ‘new evidence’ is here:

Well done, Keira and the two parents!!!
UK - More NHS Madness
It has been revealed that the NHS are putting larping me on women’s wards in psychiatric hospitals!! EDI Jester is understandably outraged!
The Supreme Court Judgment - The Aftermath
At a conference organised by Free Speech Union and Women’s Rights Network in Manchester on 30 May ( at which the bloke above asked a question at the end 😃) barrister Akua Reindorf, interviewed by Jo Bartosch, spoke of the SC judgment and other matters. Amongst other things she said:
She felt that it would be too difficult and unwise to repeal the Gender Recognition Act. However she explained that this was because it implemented a judgment ( Goodwin v UK ) of the European Court of Human Rights. This kind of cements my newly found opinion that we should seek to leave the European Convention ( the ECtHR is the court that implements the Convention). My opinion is based on sovereignty ( picking up on longstanding arguments about sovereignty from, for example, Tony Benn). We should not be subject to some foreign court that we really have little or no control over. We have the Human Rights Act ( which largely repeats the Convention ) in force in the UK and the Supreme Court (ultimately) can oversee that.
Kellie-Jay and EDI Jester think we should repeal the Equality Act whereas I feel we should radically amend it ( eg, removing the protected characteristic of ‘gender reassignment’). I was pleased to hear that Akua agrees that it should not be repealed and did mention that it might need amendment. I hope to do a separate piece at some stage with my thoughts on the Equality Act though this is proving difficult giving the amount of news, opinion and analysis that keeps pouring in to Dusty Towers!!
All thoughts gratefully received.
Ireland - Not All Gays
Following their recent inaugural conference, excellent interview by Mr Menno with the directors of LGB group Not All Gays. Great to see young people in Ireland fighting back!
Women’s Sport
Sex Matters are starting an interview series and kicked off ( so to speak!!) with Helen Joyce interviewing their sports’ expert, Fiona McAnena who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the issue of men in women’s sport. I watched the live premiere and commented in the chat about certain other examples that were relevant as the interview proceeded so you might want to click on ‘live chat replay’ when you watch it to see my comments and all the other interesting comments. The interview starts, of course, with Lia ‘The Liar’ Thomas!
Free Your Faces
Kellie-Jay Keen and Let Women Speak have made available on their website amazing and moving messages received from women from around the world after they started this campaign:
Free Your Faces
We are really delighted to announce our free your faces page is live. A collection of messages I've received over the last week or so.
A couple of weeks ago, I came across two women with their faces completely covered. I told them to free their faces. As a woman who has always known the simple liberty of sunlight on my skin, the sight of others trapped behind fabric — not by choice, but by pressure or control — struck me deeply. It is bracing, upsetting, and impossible to ignore.
There are many ways to strip a woman of her freedom, but this is one of the most visible. The garment itself is only a symbol — and perhaps the least of her restrictions — but its message is loud. It demands to be addressed.
After I shared a short, seven-second video of that moment, I received hundreds of messages from women around the world. They told their stories — bravely, honestly, painfully. Their words speak louder and more powerfully than I ever could.
Canada - An Update
Excellent interview by Meghan Murphy on her channel with Mia Hughes, author of The WPATH Files and director of Genspect Canada. The disaster for Canada is that the Liberal Party are back in power after the recent election!! The Canadian Medical Association are challenging the Province of Alberta’s banning of the prescription of puberty blockers to children under 16. Mia talks of lots of ‘garbage junk science’ and ‘garbage guidelines’ which are based on the guidance from totally discredited World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). Mia talks of the horrors of phalloplasty and other such scandals. She describes this as the ‘worst medical scandal in history.’

The Grooming Gangs Scandal
Due to the analogy between the Grooming Gangs Scandal and the medicalisation of confused children, I am occasionally featuring links to good pieces. Here is an excellent and shocking interview with Raja Miah on Winston Marshall’s channel.

Thanks Dusty, some incredibly powerful pieces here. Tyler James Kay!
Great work by KJK and such heartbreaking stories. This links well with the Grooming gang piece because of attitudes to women becoming even more of a concern….as if gender ideology wasn’t bad enough.
I haven’t watched all of the Bartosch/Reindorf yet but I’m inclined to agree with you about revising it.
🤞that cross sex hormones will be banned, vile things.
I watched the excellent Sex Matters live but don’t know how to join in the chat 🤦🏻
Great to see those young people Ireland.
The NHS has become a disgrace.
We really need the animals at the end.❤️ the donkey!
